Is it possible that the treadmill lies?

Today I had one of my bussiest days ever at work.  I was totally drained by the end of the day, but forced my self to get my butt to the gym! I knew it would help me de-stress and be in a better mood when I got home (aka helps me not to be a b!#$* to Matt for no reason haha).  I hopped on the treadmill for a run since it was a million degrees out today, I'm not even kidding.  I set my pace at 9:30 and had 5 miles in mind. The first 3.5 went alright, and then I started feeling really dead.  This always happens to me when I'm on the treadmill. I will take a pace that I can easily do outside, and it becomes really difficult for me to do on the treadmill.  I talked to Matt about it when I got home and he said he felt the same way.  Soooo we are both hoping that the treadmill lies and that our fancy shmancy (expensive) Garmins are correct haha.
Well I finished, but it wasn't the most impressive run.

When I got home I whipped together a really quick dinner.
Veggies Plus...

Whole wheat pasta, shrimp and spinach artichoke sauce =

A yummy dinner.  After dinner I went to the grocery store aka the bane of my existence.  They were having a special deal that if you spend $75 on certain brands, about 100 of them, you geta $25 gift card to the store for your next visit. I had it all planned out. I went with my list of things, and my pen and paper to keep track of how much I was adding up.  Well, I lost the pen within the first 5 minutes of being in the store. FAIL. I ended up attempting to keep track of the money in my head, an it actually worked! I kind of felt like one of those crazy couponers, but it was worth it! Now for some relaxing, or going on pinterest, facebook, and blogger.  Decisions, Decision.

One Busy Wednesday

Hello all. It has been one crazy day so far. I'm just glad to be sitting down lol!  At least there are only two days left in the week, and tha means it's What I Ate Wednesday.

I started off my morning with a new favorite overnight oats recipe. The ingredients....no sugar added applesauce, nonfat plain greek yogurt, old fashioned oats, cinnamon and nutmeg.
I mixed one of these little guys with 1/4 cup greek yogurt, 1/4 cup oatmeal and a shake of cinnamon and nutmeg.  Then I put it in the fridge overnight and it was ready to go with a few toppings the next morning.

Mid morning my stomach was grawling! I had an apple and drank a glass of water to try and stay hydrated. It was almost 100 degrees here today and we had a double header in volleyball after work.  That means 2 hours of volleyball in the hot summer heat.

Lunch was also a new favorite of mine. I cooked up some quinoa and mixed it with a bunch of cooked veggies and chickpeas.  Then I drizzled a bit of bbq sauce on top. YUM

And some cherries on the side. I'm loving cherry season!

Right after work I was heading to the hair dresser to get my "wedding hair" chopped off!  I grew my hair out for over a year and I've been hating it. From the hair dresser I went straight to volleyball for our double header. Before I left for volleyball I finished my cherries and ate my favorite KIND bar.

By the time 6:30 hit I was getting hungry yet again. After our first game I found a kind soul on the sideline offering up some orange slices. Yes please. After our games, in which I totally sucked ass, Matt and I grabbed a quick dinner at WAWA.  7pm is way too late for me to go home and make a full dinner.
My sandwich was a turkey, cheddar cheese, cucumber, tomato, spinach, onion, and oregano on rye bread. I ate half and saved the other half for lunch tomorrow. I dipped it in a big pile of hummus!! After dinner I had a big spoonful of peanut butter with some chcolate chips on top. Then I worked on my grocery list for tomorrow, watered the plants, and just about passed out on the couch.  Thank God Real Housewives of Orange County is on damand for me to watch! Love my trashy TV.

Tomorrow is going to be another scorcher, so I'll be headed to the gym for my run on the dreadmill. Mrrrrrr. Oh well. Hopefully I'll get a good run in outside this weekend.

Where Is My Head??

Yesterday's post was cut short because my computer wouldn't let me write anything after I put the training plan in.  So, yesterday I did actually go for a very short run.  My butt has been killing since the workout I did on Sunday.  There is a path outside my work that is 1.7 miles long, so I ran it twice.  When I first started, my legs were not feeling it, but I eventually got into the swing of things I actually started going pretty fast....for me that is.

Today, Matt and I went out to dinner with his parents for a belated father's day celebration.  I did some research and found a good short workout on fitness magazine's website to do.  You can find the workout in more detail at this website.

It started out with the plank, row and flye.  The lightest weight I had was 8lbs, so the flye was definitely challenging.  First you do the row, come back to the ground, then do the fly and come back to the ground.
Scorpion Extension: Backwards lunge + a tricep extension = ouch my triceps

Tap and Curl: Pretty much a one legged deadlift with a bicep curl. Hurts my ars every time.

One Arm Snatch: One of my new favorite moves. Makes me feel like I actually am a legitimate weight lifter...until I look in the mirror and see how rediculous I look lol.

Dumbbell Slide: Wasn't the biggest fan of this move. Kind of like a crab walk in a squat position.

she looks like she's having a good time though hahah

Wraparound: Love this move. I did 20 reps and my abs were burning by the end.  Go up into a V and then switch the weight from hand to hand around your leg that is extended.

Cheerleader Lunge:  Backwards lunge plus a one armed overhead press.

Two Way Wood Chop: always a goodie

I went through these moves twice and then stretched....a lot.  Tomorrow is going to rediculously hot here.  We're talking in the 100's and we have a double header in volleyball.  That means two hours of volleyball in the sweltering heat!  I'm hoping we can make it though.

Exciting Day

Monday are not usually my favorite days, but today was an exciting one....for two reasons. Matt and I booked our plane tickets to Norfolk, VA on July 19th to go down for part of my family's anual beach vacation in OBX!  We didn't think we would be able to make it because of all the time we took off for the wedding/honeymoon, but we are only taking 1.5 days off from work this way, so it's not so bad! We've been going to the beach together since before I was born, and couldn't think of missing another year (I missed one the first summer I started my job).
my fam

what happens in obx stays in obx.....keg stand on a heineken mini keg. classy

Matt and I also officially signed up for the Philadelphi Rock N' Roll Half Marthon on September 16th!
I know we just signed up, but I'm already nervous! We had to put in an estimated finish time and I put 2:10.  I'm hoping that's manageable.
This is the training plan that I'm looking at right now.  It's a 12 week plan that I will start next week.  I'm going to switch my rest days to Wednesday and Friday because of volleyball and I'm going to add some strength training in at least 2 times per week.  I'm hoping I can stick to this plan, shuffling things around a little bit to fit my schedule.

Dad's Day

Matt and I slept in this morning...and for us that means 8am! It felt great though.  I ate a quick breakfast of overnight oats and headed to the gym for some strength training!  I completed this workout twice through from enjoy your healthy life.

I had to use some lighter weights on some of the workouts (the deadrow I used 15s and the walking lunges I used 8s).  I  took me about an hour to complete and I was already sore afterwards. It's not looking good for tomorrow haha. I came home and ate a small lunh of an egg, an apple and some veggies before heading to a local vineyard with Matt and my parents for fathers day.
Found some pictures in the basement from way back when.

20 some years later:

While there we shared a few bottles of wine and munched on an antipasto plate of bread, cheese, salami, olive oil and some amazine bruschetta.  On the way home we stopped at a produce stand to pick up some goodies.
strawberries galor!

When we got home we vegged out for a bit until a late, light dinner.
Crab  cake with roasted veggies and pineapple that wasn't quite ripe enough yet...oops.

We had such a fun time today just relaxing, drinking some wine and catching up with my parents. I definitely don't want the weekend to end.  This will be my first 5 day week back at work in a very long time so I'm sure it will be a little tough to get through.

I'm looking forward to running tomorrow since it will be the only day this week that won't be in the 90s. Another heat wave is on it's way!

Bad Blogger

Today was such a fun day! However, I was a very bad blogger and didn't take pictures of half of it.  Well it started out bright and early.  Matt and I got up around 7:30 today and grabbed a small bite to eat before heading to campus for a run.  I ate a banana with peanut butter and craisins on top, my version of ants on a log.  When Matt and I got to campus, I felt like...nature was calling, if you know what I mean.  I had planned to stop at one of the student centers along the way, but they were both locked! WTF.  So I ended up holding it the whole way which was not so much fun.  Today I finished 5.5 miles.
It was an ok run.  I tried out my new water belt since the last long run I did I almost died from the heat.
Pretty much the coolest person ever I know.  It has two water bottles on it and a little area that fits my keys.  I wasn't a big fan of running with it at first because it sloshes, but by the end of the run I kind of got used to it. It's going to be necessary for this summer though. Matt also ran 5.5 miles, about 10 minutes faster than me because he's awesome like that
hahah

After our run we were both starving. I ate a greek yogurt with some granolla and some protein bar when we got home.  Then at noon we were off to lums pond for a bbq with some friends....and no pictures. Sorry!

We got home from the bbq at 5pm and did some cleaning until we got hungry. I just made a quick salad for dinner and had half a KIND bar with it because I wasn't too hungry.
Spinach, carrots, green beans, celery, tuna, black beans, sliced cherries

I got an email that our grocery store had fresh cherries and I was so excited I went out and got a big bag of them.  I love them, but I hate their pits.  I told Matt that I'm going to engineer a pitless  cherry so that we can be rich and  travel the world!!

After dinner, Matt and I really couldn't decide what we wanted to do.  We both knew that if we just stayed in the house all night we would both go stir crazy.  We took Champ for a walk and then decided to set up our fire pit that we got for our wedding.

Matt enjoying some wine and dorritos. Classy!!

Tomorrow I'm hoping to go to the gym for a strength workout and then we are taking my mom and dad to a local vineyard for father's day!

Signed Up!

I'm starting to get back into my usual routine again.  I went for a run today after work and man was it a tough one.  My legs were still pretty sore from my workouts earlier in the week so it wasn't my fastest run ever.

I've also been attempting to eat a bit better this week. I've been loading up with veggies and trying to eat more fruit for my snacks at night so I can avoid the other sweets in the house.
I made this chicken and cheese bake earlier in the week for dinner and just cooked up some extra veggies to add to it for my lunch.

For dinner Matt and I decided to have fish....but it was such a big let down compared to the fish we were eating last week.

What's that yellow sauce you ask?
Something we brought home from St. Lucia.  Very yummy on potatoes if you like bananas.

In other news...Matt and I signed up for a Warrior Dash in July!  We are running it with 2 other friends and I can't wait!  I'm a little nervous that I'm going to hurt myself somehow. I was looking at all the obstacles and started psyching myself out a bit.  The whole jumping over fire thing kind of freaked me out, but I think I can do it!

Another big decision, Matt and I will begin training for our first half marathon the week of June 25th! We will be running the Philadelphia Rock N' Roll Half Marathon on September 16th! Holy cow.  I guess now that I've announced it we really have to do it!  Matt admitted to me yesterday that he really has no need to do this half marathon, but he's doing it because he knows it's on my bucket list and he also knows that I wouldn't want to do it alone. So I thank him for that. He will definitely push me to keep to the training schedule.  The one I'm looking at right now has 3 shorter runs during the week and one long run on the weekend.  There will be one to two rest days per week with some cross training and strength training mixed in.  It's a 12 week program that will hopefully make us ready for 13.1!!
